AC/DC's 'Black Ice' Certified Triple Platinum In Australia
November 9, 2008According to Undercover News, AC/DC's "Black Ice" album has been certified triple platinum by the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) for shipments in excess of 210,000 copies (an album qualifies for platinum certification if it exceeds 70,000 copies shipped to retailers). However, the actual sales as reported by the stores currently stand at 147,157, with 22,950 of those coming this past week.
As previously reported, "Black Ice" topped The Billboard 200 chart for the second week in a row after selling 271,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
"Black Ice", which is exclusively available via Wal-Mart, Sam's Club and AC/DC's web site, was down 65% over its debut total, according to Billboard.com. The album has sold more than 1 million units in two weeks.
Special "pop-up" AC/DC stores are open through January 9 in New York City and Los Angeles, where Wal-Mart does not have stores.
AC/DC kicked off its world tour in support of "Black Ice" on October 28 in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.
